For Life and Literature in a Volatile World
My name is Frances and I live in London, which is a city that used to be cold and wet but somehow recently has become hot and dry.
On occasion I’ve been known to wave a banner to save the planet although so far there is no evidence that this strategy has been entirely successful. Yet we live in hope for how else is there to live?
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll
through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me what it is you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life.

Runes are ancient scripts, magical signs for secret or hidden laws. I chose a name which I felt brought to mind the infinitely variable nature of the written word.
